Hi Uli,

I am having the beta site built right now which will be a dedicated web application nd I am hoping to store the signatories and their personal declarations on a zoomable map of the earth with highlighted lists for new members, famous members and most popular Personal Declarartions for Action.

I am hoping to have the new site built in 8 - 12 weeks. Till then I will continue doing everything by hand :-)

The listing of members and undersigners will grow very fast. I propose to re-organize it as soon as possible, i.E. in a table form with five columns: a very small image, name, city, state, link.
And … are you sure, that this is the right software for maintaining such a list ???
Kind regards,
Uli

Re: Some suggestions by Bill LiaoBill Liao, 05 Feb 2008 00:11

I suggest using some alternative to 'whereas' (sounds like legal jargon and makes me feel like being correspondingly careful about formulation of the sentences).

Ideas:
To the extent that… (would make easiest for me to ascribe to sentences I don't necessarily hold to be true in most senses but at least true in some senses)
We maintain/believe that… (requires very careful formulation and - I think - a substantial reduction in the number of sentences following).

Some of the sentences could be stronger if they were combined. For instance:

To the extent that:

  • collapsing social systems in many places are negatively impacting environments and people around the world…
  • the gap between the world’s haves and have-nots continues to grow, contributing to widespread violence, suffering, pollution and disease…

I would also try to simplify and use parallel constructions where possible (as in the examples above) and format as a bulleted list.

John Renesch (I see this post may register as anonymous and I do not know what to do so I am identfying myself here.

I recommend www.WiserEarth.org as a resource for finding organizations and people who are activists attempting to correct critical global issues…collectively what its founder Paul Hawken likens to the world's immune system. You can search by issue or name…last time I checked they had well over 10,000 orgs.

reIt could be the largest directory of global organizations dealing with global issues and, therefore, a place to check to see if you'd be reinventing the wheel. I am a big believer in working together whenever possible as opposed to starting a similar project that competes (for funding, volunteers, etc.). If an issue isn't getting attention and it warrants it, then VOILA! Start one…like the think tank of global transformationalists I'm in the process of starting.

The issues we will be covering (the starting list) includes:
Climate
Commerce/business
Consciousness/thought process
Economics
Education
Energy
Environment/sustainability
Future scenarios
Gender relations
Governance
Human Relations
International Relations
Media and Communications
Social Justice
Systems Dynamics
Youth
